My Life & My Stories – Your Life & Your Stories

A few weeks ago I had a great conversation with my editor, Steve Cohn.  He felt I needed to a few more personal stories to some sections of my book.  So I went through the manuscript chapter-by-chapter and identified where stories would help explain the insights and ideas I had.

It was quite an experience for me to relive many joy-filled times like exciting vacations with family and friends; unexpected surprises; great promotions; interesting endeavors I had pursued; meeting the person I thought would be “Mr. Forever” again and again;  celebrating friend’s weddings, baby births, new homes, promotions, etc.

My Vision Board & The Oprah Winfrey Show

As many of you may already know, I am a big believer in vision boards.  If you don’t know what they are, you can think of them as visual representations of your goals and dreams.  They are created by making collages of inspiring pictures from magazines and other printed materials.  For more information about them, see my article, “Create a Vision Board & Create Greater Success.”  There will be a chapter in my book about them.

Several weeks ago I was living out a scene from one of the pictures on my most recent vision board which I created 3 ½ months ago.  The picture is an audience shot of The Oprah Show.  It is below.

A Communication Tip That Can Make A Difference

Earlier this month I was a presenter at the PowerLife Conference here in Atlanta, an incredible day of inspiration and empowerment for all those who attended. I talked about communicating effectively, which is one of the topics I am including in my book. A quote from Peak Performance Expert, Tony Robbins, underscores its importance:  “The way we communicate with ourselves and others ultimately determines the quality of our lives.” I shared with yesterday’s audience my ten C’s for effective communication:

1. Clarity of Purpose

2. Clarity of Message

3. Courteous

Getting Started On A New Endeavor

Today is Sunday, the day I have set aside to consider and blog about this past week’s progress on my new book (Just Get Serious).

A few weeks I worked with Paul Johnson, a technology consultant, to set up my blog.  He is extremely knowledgeable and great to work with. Like with most new endeavors that we undertake, in the beginning, I felt overwhelmed with all the information he was providing. At times Paul was explaining things that were completely “over my head.”  Have you ever felt that way? I decided to just digest what was necessary right then and let the rest reside in my mind until I need to know more about it later. So if you are going to start something new, be prepared for the awkward feeling of not knowing or even completely understanding everything you are doing. Ask lots of questions and take lots of notes. That’s what I did. Paul recorded the session, so I can listen to it later on.

New Blog

This is a new blog for the book I am writing, titled Just Get Serious … Insights, Ideas and Inspiration to Get You and Keep You Moving Towards Greater Success.  On a weekly basis, I will be posting:

  • Short sections from chapters I am working on
  • My insights about the writing a book  (for those of you who want to be authors)
  • Powerful motivational quotes that I plan to use in the book
  • And other interesting writings

I hope that whatever you read here informs, motivates, and inspires you, so you can achieve your goals and dreams.

I Wish You “Serious Success” In All Your Endeavors!
